In a custom tune there are many different parameters that are changed to make your vehicle to run not only correctly but better. All of the fueling tables are changed based on the modifications done to the vehicle. Ignition timing is optimized for all conditions; fuel octane is also taken into considerations based on what you run. Airflow tables are changed when need to make the vehicle start correctly if major modifications are made. Transmission settings are changed and optimized to make the vehicle drive smoother and refined at part throttle and then shift with the feels and firmness needed at wide open throttle.
A tune will reprogram the computers that control both your engine and transmission controls. On a stock vehicle there is more room for power production as well as enhancing the way your vehicle drives day to day and in performance aspects. In a modified vehicle tuning is required to make proper adjustment for the parts that are added so that your vehicle performs correctly under all conditions.
In most applications there is an increase in fuel mileage. Making the motor run more efficient and make more power make the engine work less to produce the same results. Optimizing the part throttle shift points also do their part to reduce fuel consumption. Working together to find the balancing point between performance and mileage increases in the 1-4 mpg range have been see by just a tune alone.
Simply put YES! After getting a custom tune you will notice much better throttle response. The vehicle will seem to drive with less effort from the more power it is producing. Just light throttle conditions will feel more crisp and clean. Then once you do start to drive aggressive or take your vehicle to a track race you will notice significant reduction in times and an increase in speed. The gains you will see are all based on the modification level of the vehicle but improvement will be seen even just from a tune alone.
Using a dyno is another tool for a tuner to use to get the performance of a car correct. Done properly they will use it to dial in every type of different load and rpm range the car will see to make sure it runs correctly at all times. A street tune puts your vehicle under real world conditions at all times for all the drivability and also power situations. There are a lot of times where a dyno tune is only focused on wide open throttle fueling and the part throttle adjustments are skipped giving dyno tunes the bad reputation they have. When used correctly the tune you get from either method will be as good as the other. Here at Fastmotorsports, we focus on making sure your vehicle runs the best it can under all situations so we use the street more times than not to dial your car in but when needed for power levels, safety and weather factors will use a dyno to make your vehicle run correct the first time!
Tuning your stock computers will affect your powertrain warranty in the event of a failure. The vehicle manufacturer states that anything but the stock programming is a ground to void the warranty to the motor and transmission. This is a very touchy subject across the tuning world and a concern to all customers. You as the customer have to understand the fact you are now responsible in what happens if you have a major problem. You have options though when it comes to tuning your vehicle that will allow you to not completely throw your warranty out the window so please don’t hesitate to ask how.
Excluding radical high horsepower applications, YES, your vehicle should drive like stock and in most cases better than stock. Some of the things about tuning a vehicle make it feel more refined and smoother to drive. The added power takes less effort to make your vehicle do what you want it to do. After tuning you should be much happier with the way your vehicle drives since the whole idea is to enhance your experience driving.
We do not charge customers full price again for a tune if you come back to us for an update. We treat it by a case to case basis decided by what parts are added from the tune you received the first time. We will work with you to take care of you the best way possible as your goals with your vehicle change and evolve over the years of ownership. Not all additional modifications require a tune update, for example adding an underdrive pulley to a car does not need you to come back for an update but adding a new exhaust system to your vehicle will. If you have any questions as to what modification you are looking at will affect your tune please contact us and we will walk you though what it will and will not do to your tune and make sure you are running the best you can at all times.
Depending on the level of modifications done to the vehicle it can take anywhere from 2 hours to 12 hours of work to completely tune in. In our eyes there is no such thing as a quick tune or a “clean up” type tune. We tune every vehicle for the best performance and to exactly what the customer is looking for. There is nothing generic and no corner is cut in tuning a vehicle that comes through our shop. We are proud of our tuning and pride ourselves in how much our customers enjoy their tunes at all times and will not stop until you as a customer are 100% satisfied in the end.
With any motor it is always best to help getting air in and then out of it. The less the motor has to work to breathe and exhaust air the more efficient it will run. Then after helping the motor with the intake and exhaust systems properly tuning the vehicle is a must. Time can be taken in a tune to help custom tailor the needs for slightly better fuel mileage over gaining the best power results. So it is best to ask yourself what you end goal is with your ideas for modifying your vehicle then to carefully apply your goals with purchasing the correct parts to reach that goal.
Here at Fastmotorsports custom cams are the same price as our off the shelf offerings. We have spent time to develop a few key grinds that work well as a basis to get great results for certain generic combination of parts packages. However, we always stress to contact us for a custom grind cam for every cam purchase since it will not cost you a penny more than our off the shelf grinds yet you will get the exact goals you are looking for from your cam purchase.
If you are tuning a stock vehicle or something that has only a few minor bolt on modifications you will not have any driveability issues after the tune. When going through the process of modifying your vehicle if there is going to be anything that will negatively affect the way your vehicle will drive we will bring it to your attention first to make sure you are then comfortable with that modification on a day to day basis. If you have concerns about the way your vehicle acts after a tune please contact us right away and we will take care of it.
NO! When your battery goes dead you might lose your radio presets depending on your model of car and your fuel trims and emmision readiness codes will get reset but your actual tune will not be harmed in anyway. Think about it this way if you were to replace your battery on a completely stock vehicle you dont need to take it to the dealer to get reflashed to stock do you? The data for the tune is stored in the same place as the stock tune since we are actually moddifying the tune file itself that it will not be lost or changed unless you go in there and change it again.
